Operating your machine
Your latest Cat machine might be a bit different to what you are used to, which means you’re bound to have questions about operating it to gain the best advantage.
How do I turn on Stick Steer?
- Climb into the machine using three points of contact and start it up.
- Regardless of the previous mode, use foot pedals and travel levers to start.
- To switch to stick steer:
- Press the yellow button on the left-hand joystick.
- Confirm enabling joystick travel when prompted.

Using Stick Steer:
- Once stick steer is enabled, a green icon appears on the monitor.
- Use the left-hand joystick for movement and steering.
- To swing the cab, use the roller on the left-hand side.
- The right-hand joystick remains active for boom and bucket controls.
- Press the trigger underneath to use the roller for stick operation.
Switching Modes and Controlling the Blade:
- Switch between Turtle and Rabbit modes using the switch above the blade lever or the right-hand joystick.
- Access menu settings to switch functionality on the joystick.
- While in excavator mode, the right joystick controls linkage, and in blade mode, it controls the blade.
How do I turn on blade float?
- Activating blade float is simple – if you’ve completed the steps above, you just need to push the right joystick forward and hit the trigger underneath.
- To switch in and out of stick steer, just hit the yellow button.
- Alternating between the two modes will allow you to go from normal to operational mode for trenching or digging. It will make for a more efficient and comfortable experience.
Operating Cruise Control:
- Activate cruise control while in stick steer mode by pushing the travel joystick forward and pressing the trigger.
- To stop cruise control, move the joystick or push the travel levers forward.
- Reverse is also possible with cruise control.
