When does the WA Apprenticeship 2026 program start?
The WA Apprenticeship Program 2026 begins in January 2026.
Who is eligible to apply for the apprenticeship?
To be eligible for an apprenticeship program, you must be 17 years old at the time of commencement and be a permanent resident or an Australian citizen.
How long does the Application-to-Offer process take?
The application process takes approximately 3 months, for example, for an intake that has opened in June we would anticipate an offer of employment to the successful candidate by August.
What happens once I've applied online?
If you’re shortlisted, you will receive an online skills test within 3 weeks of your application. You will have one week to complete the test from the date it was sent to you. This test assesses basic problem solving and logical thinking. Calculators are permitted during the assessment and must be completed without support. If you make it through this selection process you then go to an assessment centre on site at WesTrac which includes multiple activities. From here our successful apprentices are selected.
Does it matter if I haven't had a job before?
No, to be successful in obtaining an apprenticeship you do not need prior employment. Relevant work experience or a pre-apprenticeship would further support your application
What are the rosters like?
Your roster is dependent on your position and site location. 1st year apprentices can work varied rosters including but not limited to; day shift, afternoon shift or night shift. As a 3rd and 4th year apprentice, you may have the opportunity for site rotation depending on your training outcomes. There are a variety of FIFO roster patterns depending on your location.
Will I be provided with uniforms?
Yes. As an apprentice you will be supplied with all the necessary PPE including; 2 x Shirts, 2 x Trousers, 1 x Polo Shirt, 7 x Overalls (laundered by WesTrac) and 1 pair of boots. Any other PPE requirements such as prescription glasses can be ordered, if necessary.
Will I be provided with tooling?
Yes. As an apprentice you will receive tooling at a discounted cost on commencement. Tooling is optional, if you choose to have tooling a payment arrangement can be put in place for the duration of your Apprenticeship.
Will I be provided with Training?
Yes. You will receive your trade training through the WesTrac Institute WA or through an external Register Training Organisation (RTO) depending on your chosen trade and location. You will also receive critical safety training and relevant high-risk work licences required to complete the requirements of your role during your apprenticeship.
Do you offer trade upgrades?
WesTrac offers both trade upgrades and dual trade opportunities in WA. When a Trade Upgrade vacancy becomes available it will be advertised on our careers website.
What happens if I am unsuccessful?
If your application is unsuccessful you will be notified formally via email or phone.
