What are the rosters like?
As an Apprentice with WesTrac, you can expect to work a day shift only roster for the first three years. Our start and finish times vary between workshops and locations; however, you can expect to start between 5:30am – 7:30am. Your working day will be 8.5 hours long, inclusive of a 30-minute meal break. As you enter the fourth year of the Apprenticeship Program, you may be given the option to opt into a nightshift roster. There are a variety of roster patterns available to suit any lifestyle.
How do you get paid as an apprentice?
As a WesTrac Apprentice, your pay is determined by our Product Support Enterprise Agreement (EA). Your rate of pay depends on your age and year level, and it will adjust as you progress through your apprenticeship. Payments are deposited into your nominated bank account every fortnight.
Your pay rate will reflect your current age. Don't worry! You will receive an increase according to our EA once your birthday has passed.
Will I be provided with uniforms?
Yes. You will be supplied with uniforms including boots and all personal protective equipment (PPE) needed that is required for your role. Overalls are also laundered, free of charge, at all locations. As a WesTrac Apprentice, you will have access to our full range of our employee benefits including such as Fitness Passport, discounted health insurance, exclusive retail sales and discounted toolbox insurance.
Will I be provided with training?
Yes. Depending on your trade, you will either receive your trade training through the WesTrac Institute (our onsite RTO-50737 at Tomago NSW) or through a local TAFE. You will also receive critical safety training and relevant high-risk work licenses required to complete the requirements of your role during your apprenticeship.
What does the training schedule look like?
Apprentices doing Mobile Plant and Auto Electrical trades will complete training in a block release format where classroom training is scheduled in blocks of 1-2 weeks throughout the year. In your first year, you can expect to spend approximately 12-13 weeks in training. Apprentices completing other qualifications will attend TAFE as per the training schedule they provide. This will usually consist of 1 day a week at TAFE and 4 days onsite at a WesTrac Branch.
